Their fall leaves are a cheerful golden yellow, and their branches have a lovely wintergreen aroma. Leaves turn bright yellow and gold in the fall Sun-loving species Its bark was historically used to make the essential oil of wintergreen Attracts many species of butterflies, serving as a host to their caterpillars Produces beautiful, strong wood that darkens to a deep red with age Maplewood Ridge Easily reach this section, yet feel deep in the woods with the best mountain views. Enjoy a diverse mix of trees, including some of the tallest and oldest sugar maples. Spot abundant wildlife like deer, bears, foxes, and more, along with vibrant blooms in spring. Maplewood Ridge runs parallel to Mountainview Meadow and contains the most diverse mix of tree species in the entire forest. Some of the largest and oldest sugar maples can be found here. As you walk deeper into the forest, the terrain becomes more rugged and rises up from the meadow on a gentle slope, evoking a feeling of being deep in the woods. An easy five-minute walk from the Welcome House, Maplewood Ridge is the most conveniently located section of the forest. Visiting the Forest We invite you to enjoy a personalized forest tour hosted by our Forest Guides. Bring your friends & family, meet your tree and our team, and experience the beauty of the forest you are helping to protect. We are opening for visits by appointment on March 4th, and we look forward to hosting you soon. Purchase Summary Ongoing Forest Care 7% of your purchase is set aside in a stewardship trust for ongoing forest care. Living Ecosystems The cycle of life and death are interconnected. If your tree dies before any ashes have been spread, we’ll help transfer you to another tree free of charge. If your tree dies after ashes have been spread, your memorial marker(s) will remain, marking your special place in the forest ecosystem. We look at each tree on a case-by-case basis, and we seek to be minimally invasive while prioritizing forest health. Rights to the Forest You have perpetual access to your tree. Every customer is granted an irrevocable license to access their memorial tree and the forest. These are recorded with local governments to ensure you and your loved ones can enjoy the forest. To spread ashes at your tree (people or pets), your tree needs to be paid in full. Transfers and Refunds We want you to have peace of mind with your purchase. Within 120 days of your purchase, we offer one free tree transfer and refunds. After 120 days, you can transfer to a tree of the same value for a fee. If your tree dies unexpectedly before ashes have been spread, we’ll help you choose a new tree at no cost.
